A club aiming to promote edible insects as an alternative sustainable food source for the future

Since 9th grade, I have been a member of ECOSAVE club, a club dedicated to raising awareness about the sustainable value of edible insects. As a member of this club, I worked with a team of 6 other members in events such as street fundraisers where I sold edible insect cookies to promote them as a valuable source of protein in my local community. Besides fundraising, our club has mainly been focusing on different ways we could promote edible insects as an alternative food source for the future despite the skepticism surrounding them.

This was the most memorable activity in which I consistently participated as a member of this club throughout my high school years. After organizing multiple fundraisers, I realized that skepticism towards the phenomenon of eating insects persisted in my community. I also recognized that the main drawback of fundraisers was that they limited our ability to thoroughly explain our aim of promoting edible insects as a food source for the future - some people would simply take the products and leave without engaging in a discussion about our perspectives on these bugs. Therefore, our club decided that we needed more creativity in our approach. That's when I decided to use my passion for video editing and create baking vlogs to reach a wider audience, specifically targeting those who might shy away from the idea.

While making these videos, I initially only targeted these vlogs towards humans. However, with my ongoing project of GOAMOGO and my growing curiosity about how edible insects can provide great nutritional value for our pets, I decided to use the YouTube platform as a channel to spread awareness, as demonstrated in the date cake tutorial mentioned above.

This is a photo of me with my dog filming a baking vlog on creating a dates cake for dogs. It was the first vlog that focused on a pet-friendly edible insect dessert, which I found very intriguing, especially since my dog really enjoyed the cake!
This is a photo of us after baking cookies for my dog, using edible insects and dog-friendly ingredients. We were able to introduce the owner of this dog cafe to the idea of edible insects as an alternative food source for our pets while making these treats.
